[News] Lamb of God/Dethklok Tour Cancelled

Today a press released from Adrenaline PR officially cancelled the tour between the two bands because of the allegations against singer Randy Blythe.

Due to the continued incarceration of LAMB OF GOD singer Randy Blythe in the Czech Republic, the band’s co-headline tour with Dethklok scheduled to begin August 1 st in Seattle is being cancelled. The band regrets the decision but the uncertainty of Randy’s release makes it impossible to carry on with the tour. Upon Randy’s release, it is the band’s intention to rebook a tour in the fall and at this time the band fully intends to participate in the Mayhem Cruise in December.

Fans can only hope things pan out before another show is cancelled.

[Blog] The importance of alarms and coupons

I could throw a chair right now, I’m so upset.

A while back I wrote about the 1iota website and how easy it is to get tickets to free concerts. I had signed up to get tickets to see Serj Tankian at the Jimmy Kimmel Show and I was completely looking forward to writing about it here. Unforunately, I thought the concert was on Thursday (July 12) when really, it was Wednesday. And by the time I remembered – actually, was told – the concert was already starting. I wasn’t going make it to L.A. by any means.

So now, I’m going to have to force myself to set an alarm for important dates. Because although I remembered the concert was on July 11, I didnt’ realize that July 11 was a Wednesday.

Serj Tankian – Harakiri

Speaking of which, Tankian released a new CD on Tuesday called Harakiri. My boyfriend bought the CD so I’ll make sure to grab it soon and write a review. I did get a taste of the songs though and I’ll just have to say that it reminds me of old System of a Down. Not classic SOAD, I mean SOAD starting their career old. It’s so weird I love it.

Anyway, on Tankian‘s Facebook page, there is a coupon to get the new CD from Best Buy for $7.99 that is good until Sat., July 14. You don’t even have to print it out, just have it on your phone for the cashier to scan. So if you like Serj and you really like old System, you should defintely take advantage of this deal.

[Blog] Fires on the lawn (Mayhem Festival)

So as a fan – not as a journalist – Mayhem Festival last night was pretty awesome. But this is not a review but more tale of experience.

Not to brag or anything but since the very first time I went to a concert I have always had pit tickets. When I officially started writing articles about concerts, I still had backstage privileges and sideline pit tickets if I wasn’t already about to be in them. What I’m trying to say is last night was a first for me.

After I was done shooting Mayhem Festival, my boyfriend and I took to the lawn to watch the rest of Slayer’s set and Slipknot following them. From a short distance, I saw a fire. And a few feet away from were we sat on the grass, someone took a handful of flames and started another. I can only imagine how many other fires were started in the same way.

Then it started to get cold. We stood by the fire to actually keep warm (I did not contribute to the fire itself) until Slipknot started. I have never seen Slipknot perform live before so I was really excited because they are one of my favorite bands. But once the music started, everyone around the fire helped it get larger! People were fanning it and adding their beer cups and paper to keep it burning. Everyone started chanting and running together through and around the fire, while others held each other close and laughed. And then I realized, I didn’t watch Slipknot perform until a couple of songs in. I was having fun.

This wasn’t a mosh pit or numbered seating. This wasn’t backstage where you can sit in the shade and watch the concert on a big screen. This was a communal action that made it worth going to a festival. Yes, yes, starting fires on the lawn is illegal; I saw the signs that said it.

It’s absolutely true what they say about people who gather around the fire…
